Our website re-freshed!

July 22nd, 2008 Posted in Company News | No Comments »

We finally found some time to dust-off our website and have made some design changes that we’re hoping will help make it even easier to navigate for all of our visitors.  In particular, we’re really happy to finally have all of our samples in our screening room integrated directly within the site.  Hopefully this will give you an even better way to scroll through our portfolio to get a sense of what kind of wedding film we produce.  Angela has done an amazing job fitting this into her hectic schedule so I just wanted to thank her as well for all her hard work!

A busy weekend!

July 16th, 2008 Posted in Company News | No Comments »

Whew! It was a fun and b u s y little weekend at Cloud Nine. :) We filmed not one, but two incredible events on Saturday and welcomed two visiting cinematographers from the Re:Frame Collective to assist in the filming festivities! Cloud Nine Creative is proud to be one of the six founding studios of this top-notch collective of talent. Each founding studio was recently named to the list of Top 25 Wedding Videographers so there was no shortage of talent on the West Coast this weekend! Needless to say, we were thrilled to finally welcome a few members of the American contigent to Vancouver. Assisting on our shoots this weekend was Joe Taravella from Studio Vieux Carre in New Orleans & Kyle Nalley from Elysium Productions in Orange County, California.

Kathleen & Cameron’s wedding took place at the historic St. Andrew’s Wesley Cathedral on Burrard with a beautiful reception at the newly renovated Terminal City Club. The ever-amazing Tina Graham was on hand to photograph the day and Tairalyn from On Edge Events made sure the day went smoothly.

On the other side of town, Cari & Paulo’s wedding was taking place in Burnaby at St. Helen’s Church followed by their reception at the new Riverside Grand Ballroom.  One of my personal fav’s of their day had to be the ice-sculpture of a building crane that gently hoisted Cari & Paulo’s wedding monogram onto the top of a multi-tiered cake - TOTALLY unique. Paulo is a crane operator so it was a fun little connection to the couple. The amazingly talented duo of Chris & Lynn Jaksa from Chris+Lynn Photography captured some incredible images from their day and were able to send some over to us today to share. GORGEOUS! (Thanks guys)…

Congratulations to our beautiful couples Kathleen & Cameron and Cari & Paulo on their beautiful wedding days!

Client Feedback

July 9th, 2008 Posted in Client Feedback | No Comments »

I’ve been meaning to post a comment we received a while back from Melissa (one of our past clients who’s wedding we filmed and which was also featured in a past issue of WedLuxe Magazine).

I try to mention to clients when I first meet them that we film weddings differently here at Cloud Nine.  We aren’t videotaping your wedding but rather, we’re creating a stylized documentary of a life moment - an important one!  What’s the difference?  Well to me it means that we take great care from the minute we meet with clients to the time when when we call them to pick-up their film.  All of our shots are all carefully executed, we make sure absolutely everything is captured and we are meticulous with the editing of the final film.  That’s why it’s so gratifying to me when we receive such great comments like the one we received from Melissa.

One thing that really stood out to me in her message was when she said her dad “can’t get enough of his speech”.  That statement encapsulates one of the things I try to communicate to as many people as possible - that we aren’t competing with photography but are instead providing a completely different kind of way to document your day.  Melissa is right, her dad’s speech was full of love, humor and advice and it was a life moment.  It’s not something she’ll likely watch every day or even every week, but I’m sure she’ll watch her film every year and will show other family members and people that are still to come what happened on her wedding day.  The point is, if you can squeeze videography into your day, these are moments that deserve to be captured that are gone forever unless they’re professionally filmed.

Thanks again Melissa!

Hi Bruce,

I’ve been meaning to email all last week. Thanks so much for the video. It looks awesome! Jeff and I love it, my parents love it…and so does everyone else who’s seen the video so far (His parents haven’t seen it yet). My dad has been inviting everyone over to watch it - No joke! And he just can’t get enough of his speech! Thanks again for doing a wonderful job. It was definitely worth the wait!!! Hope you had a nice weekend!

Melissa

Jelena & Marko

July 6th, 2008 Posted in Just Because | No Comments »

This past weekend we had the pleasure of filming Jelena & Marko’s wedding with Steve and Jen Bebb of Bebb Studios. The ceremony took place at the top of Grouse mountain while the reception was held downtown at the always glorious Hotel Vancouver. Steve passed along a few images of the day so in keeping with our recent theme of giving you upcoming brides some visual inspiration through the still images of some of the great photographers we work with, enjoy the shots below!  And stay-tuned of course for their film highlights trailer that we’ll produce and post here as soon as it’s ready!

Shiva & Grant’s Highlights

There’s a reason why Hycroft Manor is one of my favourite locations to shoot in Vancouver!  The house itself and the grounds surrounding it are absolutely stunning.  On a day like Shiva & Grant’s wedding the sun sparkled through any tree or pane of glass around.  Below is the highlights trailer we’ve put together for them.  Once you’ve had a chance to enjoy it, look for their story in print in the latest issue of WedLuxe Magazine - set to hit newsstands very shortly.

Jennifer & Clifford’s Highlights (Mauritius, Indian Ocean)

May 21st, 2008 Posted in Destination Weddings | No Comments »

It was an incredible adventure to film the beautiful wedding of Jennifer & Clifford in Mauritius.  After nearly 2 days of travel to get to their native country (Mauritius is located off the eastern coast of South Africa) we were welcomed not only by the warmth of the climate but also by the warmth of both Jennifer and Clifford’s family. The wedding day itself was spectacular.  Taking place at one of the premiere locations on the entire island, the Hilton Mauritius, Jennifer and Clifford went all out with the details in order to truly make for a memorable wedding.  Below is a preview trailer we put together for them to share with friends and family.

“Be My Rock” - Shoot for Modern Bride Magazine

May 21st, 2008 Posted in Company News, The Re:Frame Collective | No Comments »

This is the first of hopefully many collaborative efforts by the Re:Frame Collective. Modern Bride Magazine asked Kristen from Bliss Video Productions to put together several videos for the Modern Bride Trendsetter awards last week, one of which was the video below. Be My Rock is a new branch of their website that helps couples in crises with advice/support while having to plan their wedding at the same time. Kristen and I shot many of the interviews in New York, Alex and Julie Hill from Elysium Productions were also heavily involved in this collaborative piece with  Alex filming Jen & Nate’s wedding in Florida and Julie editing the clip below. I’m pretty proud of what we accomplished, and am even more excited to have been a part of this project!

Fara & Nick’s Highlights

May 14th, 2008 Posted in Wedding Highlights | 1 Comment »

When I first met Fara and Nick I knew we would get along famously.  These 2 have life in perspective and their fun spirit was evident throughout their wedding day both in the details they planned and their interactions between family and friends.  The speeches were especially touching so I decided to include some of them throughout this clip.  It was an absolute pleasure for Sharon and I to film their wedding day for them.  Enjoy!
